CHICOPEE, MASS.—The SUNY Potsdam men's volleyball team (6-9) defeated Elms College (3-8) and Brooklyn College (3-5) on Saturday afternoon in a tri-match hosted by Elms. Sophomore
Duncan Tenhagen (Buffalo, N.Y./West Seneca West) led the Bears with 34 kills, 11 digs, two blocks and two aces in the two contests.
The Bears downed the host Blazers straight sets, 25-14, 25-23 and 25-18. Tenhagen had a career-high 19 kills. Freshman outside hitter
Darius Dorsey-Rhule (Elmont, N.Y./Elmont Memorial) had nine kills and senior middle hitter
Sean Murray (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island) had seven. Freshman setter
Alex Lombardo (East Hampton, N.Y./East Hampton) registered 18 assists and a block. Senior libero
Tom Shemik (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island) finished with 15 digs and senior opposite
Zaire Rogers (Cheektowaga, N.Y./Cheektowaga) had nine digs and an ace. Senior captain
Michael Anderson (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) totaled 18 assists and eight digs. Freshman outside hitter
Jesse Schwartz (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland) added three aces and senior middle hitter
Cam McGarry (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) posted two blocks.
Nicholas Uschmann led the Blazers with nine kills and four blocks. John Bellafronte had four kills and a block. Pedro DeJesus recorded 17 assists and nine digs.
Against the Bulldogs, Potsdam took the first set 25-14 before falling in the second 25-23. The Bears the sealed the win with 25-15 and 25-13 set victories. Tenhagen had another 15 kills and an ace in the finale. Rogers registered nine kills, four aces, 10 digs and two assists. Murray matched his opener total with seven kills to go with a career-high eight blocks. Lombardo and Anderson also equaled their earlier efforts with 18 assists apiece. Lombardo also had four digs. Shemik had another 10 digs.
Aaron Siu led Brooklyn with 14 kills, 10 digs and a block. Armand Kaloshi had six kills, while Tommy Min and Alvaro Gonzalez had eight and six digs, respectively.
The Bears are back home Wednesday, when they host NEVC Rival NVU-Johnson for a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
