POTSDAM, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam men's volleyball team (8-9, 1-1 NEVC) swept a doubleheader from NVU Johnson (0-6, 0-1) on Wednesday night. The Bears have now won five matches in a row.
Potsdam took the opener 25-17, 25-18 and 25-16. Junior middle hitter
Matt Kilinski (Greenfield Center, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) led the Bears with a career-high 16 kills to go with two blocks and two aces. Sophomore outside hitter
Duncan Tenhagen (Buffalo, N.Y./West Seneca West) had 10 kills and six digs and senior middle hitter
Sean Murray (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island) matched a career-high with nine kills. He also had two aces and two blocks. Freshman setter
Alex Lombardo (East Hampton, N.Y./East Hampton) recorded 20 assists. Senior captain
Michael Anderson contributed 15 assists and seven digs. Senior libero
Tom Shemik (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island) added a match-best 11 digs.
Senior outside hitter Patrick Holmes led the Badgers with five kills, five digs and a block. Sophomore outside hitter Luke Walters also had five kills along with eight assists. Sophomore middle blocker Sam Munson totaled six assists, while sophomore defensive specialist Sam Benitez and freshman middle hitter Owen Marchessault each finished with four digs.
The Bears went with a youth movement in the second game, winning 25-8, 25-15 and 25-17. Freshman outside hitter
Jesse Schwartz (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland) led Potsdam with a career-high 10 kills. Freshman outside hitter
Darius Dorsey-Rhule (Elmont, N.Y./Elmont Memorial) matched a personal best with nine kills. Freshman outside hitter
Calum Anderson (East Hampton, N.Y./East Hampton) also registered a career-high nine kills and led the team with seven digs. Lombardo registered eight aces and six digs and added 18 assists to his total. Anderson had another 19 assists and five digs.
Walters paced the Badgers in the finale with seven kills and two assists. Munson had another six assists. Sophomore libero Carter Hubley recorded seven digs and two aces. Holmes had six digs and Marchessault added five more.
The Bears are on the road this weekend. They face Geneva College at 2 p.m. at Wells College before battling the host Express at 4 p.m.
