OSWEGO, N.Y.—Oswego State (5-3, 2-0 SUNYAC) scored with 11 seconds left in overtime to defeat the SUNY Potsdam men's lacrosse team (6-3, 1-1) 5-4 on Saturday afternoon. Junior midfielder
Drew Rose (Brasher Falls, N.Y./St. Lawrence Central) led the Bears with two goals and an assist. Sophomore goalie
Saka Thompson (Akwesasne, N.Y./Salmon River) had another stellar day with 18 saves.
Despite a strong defensive effort, Potsdam's offense battled to keep pace with the Lakers. Rose scored at 3:12 of the first quarter to tie the game at one apiece. Oswego scored the only two goals of the second quarter and led 3-1 at the break. Rose closed the gap to 3-2 with the only marker of the third quarter.
Junior attackman
Owen Walsh (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) tied the game 53 seconds into the fourth quarter with a helper from Rose. The Lakers answered with 4:15 remaining, but graduate student midfielder
Peyton Walsh (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) got the Bears even a final time at 2:34 on a feed from sophomore midfielder
Tyler Gould (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder). Thompson made a save on Oswego's final change and the contest headed to overtime.
Thompson and his Laker counterpart Seamus Hand each stopped an attempt early in the extra four minutes. Hayden Coney finally solved Thompson with 11 seconds on the clock.
Corey O'Connor led Oswego with two goals and Coney finished with a goal and an assist. Hand made 16 saves to earn the win.
The Bears are back in action next Friday, when they travel to SUNY Geneseo for a 4 p.m. contest.
