POTSDAM, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam men's lacrosse team (7-5, 2-3 SUNYAC) pressed SUNY New Paltz (5-8, 1-4) from start to finish in a 16-6 victory on Saturday afternoon. Junior attackman
Cobie Cree (Akwesasne, N.Y./Salmon River) led the Bears with six points on two goals and four assists. Graduate student midfielder
Peyton Walsh (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) had a game-high four goals and one assist for five points. Junior attackman
Owen Walsh (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) had three goals and an assist. Junior midfielder
Drew Rose (Brasher Falls, N.Y./St. Lawrence Central) scored two goals and had an assist and sophomore midfielder
Tyler Gould (Webster, N.Y./Webster-Schroeder) added two goals. Sophomore goalie
Saka Thompson (Akwesasne, N.Y./Salmon River) stopped another 13 shots for his ninth career win.

Drew Costello (Ogdensburg, N.Y./Ogdensburg Free Academy) set the tone by winning the opening faceoff, racing down the field and scoring 11 seconds into the contest. Potsdam then scored the next three goals as well. Rose struck at 11:54 and then set up
Owen Walsh at 9:36. Senior midfielder
Bryce Tyler (Camden, Maine, N.Y./Camden Hills) scored at 6:16 to complete the run. Graduate attackmen Thomas Armetta (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) and Ryan Scully (Bayshore, N.Y./Bayshore) sandwiched the next two goals for New Paltz around Gould's first score and it was a 5-2 contest at 3:38.
Peyton Walsh scored the final goal of the opening quarter at 2:21 and started a 5-0 run.
The Bears got the only four goals of the second 15 minutes. Cree scored the first two at 13:09 and 10:08, the second coming while a man down.
Owen Walsh set up Peyton at 5:55 and then scored his own goal on a feed from Cree at 5:00. The Bears led 10-2 at the half.
Hawks senior attackman John Reese (Nesconset, N.Y./Smithtown East) opened the second half with back-to-back tallies and trimmed the lead to six. Cree then set up
Owen Walsh for a man-down marker at 9:12 and Gould at 6:27 for a 12-4 advantage. Junior attackman James Flanagan (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown North) got the third quarter's final goal for New Paltz at the 00:40.

Ryan Hughes (Corning, N.Y./Corning-Painted Post) gave the Bears a 13-5 lead at 8:15 of the fourth quarter. Reese responded with the Hawks' final goal at 6:26.
Peyton Walsh then played a part in each of the contest's final three goals. He scored at 5:06, set up Rose at 4:15 and buried the final goal at 3:13.
Senior Ryan Steinhart (Hauppauge, N.Y./Hauppauge) had a strong day for New Paltz with 17 saves and 13 goals allowed in the first 53:59. Freshman Dan Clark (West Hampstead, N.Y./West Hampstead) allowed three goals in the last 6:01.
Prior to the game, the Bears honored seniors
Nicholas Parrish (Fulton, N.Y./G. Ray Bodley,
Gerald VanDeWalker (Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) and
Casey Hooper (Massena, N.Y./Massena) for their careers on Senior Day.
