BOSTON, MASS. – The SUNY Potsdam men's volleyball team (17-12) swept Fisher College (0-22) in both matches this afternoon.
In the opening match, the Bears took all three sets by scores of 25-4, 25-20, and 25-17. Senior middle hitter
Sean Murray (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island) led Potsdam with 13 kills, 13 digs, and one ace. Freshman middle hitter
Connor McGovern (Henrietta, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta) registered a career-high six kills and one ace. Freshman middle hitter
Jack Orrange (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) posted eight digs and a career-high six aces. Sophomore outside hitter
Duncan Tenhagen (Buffalo, N.Y./West Seneca West) had 10 assists while junior outside hitter
Matt Kilinski (Greensfield Center, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) and freshman setter
Alex Lombardo (East Hampton, N.Y./East Hampton) totaled nine and five digs, respectively.
Owen Novelli paced the Falcons with eight kills, six digs, and one ace. Carlos Diaz had four kills and eight digs. Ben Horton registered 17 digs and two aces. Christopher Sheppard had seven digs and Elvin Perez finished with six digs to wrap up the leaders for match one.
In the second match of the afternoon, the Bears swept all three sets by 25-21, 25-22, 25-16 counts. Freshman middle hitter
Benson Jovel-Truong (Latham, N.Y./Shaker) had career-highs with eight kills, two aces, and four digs to lead Potsdam. Senior outside hitter
Tom Shemik (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island) totaled six kills and a career-high seven aces. Senior captain
Michael Anderson (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) posted five kills, seven digs, and one block. Graduate student
Zaire Rogers (Cheektowaga, N.Y./Cheektowaga) had 14 assists while Kilinski registered six digs and three aces. Freshman outside hitter
Dylan Murray (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island) finished the match with three kills for the Bears.
Novelli led the hosts with four kills, seven digs, and one ace. Diaz followed closely with three kills and eight digs. Jeremy Blau ended the match with seven digs, two aces, and one block.
With the conclusion of this weekend's contests, the men's volleyball team recorded a single-season program record of 17 wins.
The Bears are the fifth seed in the upcoming NEVC tournament and will travel to Endicott College or SUNY Poly on Tuesday, April 9, depending on the outcome of this afternoon's contests.
