PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam women's volleyball team (0-1) fell to Plymouth State (2-0) 3-1 in the first round of the Plattsburgh Cardinal Classic to open the season on Friday evening.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Panthers broke a 4-4 tie in the first set with a 4-0 run. A kill from senior opposite Alyssa Adams (Jamestown, N.Y./Randolph) got the Bears within 13-9, but Plymouth State pulled away for a 25-15 set one win.
• The Panthers were red hot in the second set, rolling to a 25-7 victory.
• The Bears reversed their fortunes in the third set, racing out to an 11-5 lead. Another Adams kill gave Potsdam a 21-12 advantage and senior captain Megan Henry (Candor, N.Y./Candor) closed out the 25-16 triumph with a kill.
• The Panthers opened the fourth and decisive set on a 7-0 run and closed out the match with a 25-8 win.

 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS

• Adams led the Bears with 11 kills,10 digs and two aces.
• Henry finished with seven kills, 13 digs and two blocks.
• Junior captain Sophia Layer (Potsdam, N.Y./Potsdam) had 20 assists, 10 digs, three kills and an ace.
• Sophomore setter Rachel Madore (Peru, N.Y./Peru) contributed 10 digs and senior captain Santara Hart (Meridian, Idaho/Meridian) added two blocks.

 
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Bears are back in action tomorrow at noon when they take on host SUNY Plattsburgh. They will then face Saint Michael's College at 2 p.m.
