Bears battle to 2-2 draw with Valiants

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.—Senior captain Justin Mossey (Amity Harbor, N.Y./Amity Harbor) scored twice and freshman midfielder Kyan Tiede (Leicester, N.Y./York) had two assists as the SUNY Potsdam men's soccer team (1-0-1) tied Manhattanville College (0-1-1) 2-2 on Saturday afternoon. The contest was the second round of the Northwestern Mutual (Plattsburgh) Cardinal Classic.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Mossey opened the scoring at 14:45 with an assist from Tiede.
  • Alec Pineda tied the game at 52:31 on a feed from Guido Sarango.
  • Mossey put the Bears up 2-1 at 58:05 with another assist from Tiede.
  • Johnny Antolino got the equalizer with a helper from Sarango at 74:26.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Manhattanville outshot the Bears 20-9 and had a 7-5 edge in corners.
  • Graduate student goalie Lucas Schiel (Bremen, Germany/Colegio Humboldt) made nine stops for Potsdam.
  • Luis Granados finished with three saves for Manhattanville.
  • The contest was the first ever meeting between the two programs and the first time Mossey scored twice in a game during his Bears career.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
The Bears open up at home on Friday, September 6, at 4 p.m. against SUNY Delhi. Potsdam is 1-0-1 all-time against the Broncos.
