Broncos edge Bears in home opener, 1-0

POTSDAM, N.Y.—SUNY Delhi (1-0-2) scored early in the first half and made it stand up in a 1-0 win over the SUNY Potsdam men's soccer team (1-1-1) on Friday afternoon.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Sophomore midfielder Roberto Velasquez-Osorio (Monticello, N.Y./Monticello) scored the contest's only goal at 14:52, tipping a pass from junior defender Matt Serrao (Franklin, N.Y./Franklin) into the net.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • The Bears outshot the Broncos 11-2 in the first half and 15-5 in the second half for a 24-6 overall advantage.
  • Potsdam generated six corner kicks to Delhi's one.
  • Graduate student goalie Lucas Schiel (Bremen, Germany/Colegio Humboldt) made three saves for the Bears.
  • Sophomore keeper Salvatore Meloni (Ridge, N.Y./Longwood) stopped six shots to earn the win for the Broncos.
