POTSDAM, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam women's volleyball team (4-2) swept past Paul Smith's College (0-2) 3-0 in its home opener on Tuesday evening.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Bears cruised to a 10-3 start in set one before finishing off the 25-10 win. Senior captain Megan Henry (Candor, N.Y./Candor) had five kills.
• Potsdam started set two up 8-2 before Paul Smith's made up some ground. The Bears took the middle game 25-15.
• The Bobcats scored early in set three and a 6-0 run put the Bears on the brink at 17-10. However, Potsdam rallied and closed the set on a 15-6 run with sophomore outside hitter Emily Prest (Averill Park, N.Y./Averill Park) giving the Bears the lead for good with a late service ace.

 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS

• Prest led the Bears with 11 kills and nine digs.
• Senior opposite Alyssa Adams (Jamestown, N.Y./Randolph) added nine kills, three aces and two blocks.
• Henry recorded eight kills.
• Junior setter Sophia Layer (Potsdam, N.Y./Potsdam) had 21 assists and eight digs.
• Sophomore setter Rachel Madore (Peru, N.Y./Peru) had 10 digs and sophomore middle hitter Jaqueline Fornabia (Gansevoort, N.Y./Saratoga Central Catholic) chipped in two blocks.

 
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Bears host a tri-match with Alfred State and Vermont State University-Johnson on Saturday. The Bears face the Pioneers at noon and the Badgers at 4 p.m. The two visitors meet in a neutral site contest at 2 p.m.
