Buffalo State outlasts Bears in SUNYAC opener

POTSDAM, N.Y.—Buffalo State (8-0-1, 1-0 SUNYAC) scored three first half goals and held on to defeat the SUNY Potsdam men's soccer team (4-3-2, 0-1) 4-3 on Saturday afternoon. Freshman forward Kyan Tiede (Leicester, N.Y./York) scored twice for the Bears. Prior to the game senior Peyton Snell (Parishville, N.Y./Parishville-Hopkinton) was honored for his Potsdam career.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Sophomore midfielder Jake Trubia (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) opened the scoring at 19:40 with an assist from freshman midfielder Cristiano Lozier (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) to make it 1-0 Bears.
  • The Bengals were awarded a penalty kick at 24:00 and junior forward Diego Riviera (East Meadow, N.Y./Cairo Durham) made the most of it to tie the score.
  • At 28:55, senior forward Adam Webster (York, England/Woldgate College) launched a shot into the upper left corner of the goal to give Buffalo State a 2-1 lead.
  • Senior forward Nacho Caceres (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay) put Buffalo State up 3-1 at 42:25 with a shot in the top right corner.
  • Tiede got the Bears back within one with a goal at 49:28.
  • At 82:18 Webster scored again with an assist from Rivera to give Buffalo State the insurance they'd need to hang on.
  • Tiede countered a final time at 85:04 to make it a 4-3 contest. Senior captain Zach Cunningham (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills East) picked up the assist.
