Eagles double up Bears in Sunday cup finale

HOBOKEN, N.J.—In a rare Sunday contest, Husson University (1-3) defeated the SUNY Potsdam women's soccer team 6-3. The contest was the finale of the Stevens Annual Engineering Cup.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Eagles scored three times in the match's first 3:58 and the Bears struggled to catch up.
  • Kate Harriman scored with an assist from Caley Nault just 45 seconds after kick off.
  • Addi Laslie made it 2-0 at 3:33 on a feed from Natalie Aviolla.
  • Laslie stuck again just 25 seconds later for a 3-0 advantage.
  • Graduate defender Kienle Burns (Cornwall, N.Y./Cornwall) got Potsdam on the board at 21:41 with a helper from junior defender Emma Wilson (Nesconset, N.Y./Sachem North). The goal was the first of Burns' career.
  • Just 1:51 later, sophomore forward Adrianna Orlando (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) closed the gap to a single goal with a marker on an assist from senior midfielder Sarah Emmi (Huntington, N.Y./Elwood-John Glenn).
  • Harriman notched her second goal at 49:48 to give Husson a 4-2 advantage with another assist from Aviolla.
  • Laslie completed her hat trick at 53:56 with an assist from Kate Benson.
  • Harriman then sealed her own hat trick with a goal to make it 6-2 at 69:32.
  • Senior forward Hailey von Ahn (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) closed the scoring with Potsdam's third goal at 84:53.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Husson edged the Bears in shots 15-12, but the Bears finished with a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.
  • Sophomore goalie Caroline Vines (Irondequoit, N.Y./Irondequoit) made five saves for Potsdam.
  • Madison Weigler stopped five shots for the Eagles.

The Bears are back home on Wednesday night to host Utica University at 7 p.m.
