No. 6 Oswego edges Bears in OT thriller, 4-3

POTSDAM, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam women's hockey team (5-6-1, 1-4-1 SUNYAC) rallied from a two-goal deficit to force overtime against sixth-ranked Oswego State (10-1-1, 7-1-1) before falling 4-3.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Graduate student forward Rebecca Holmes (Lawtons, N.Y./Buffalo Bisons) got the Bears on the board first at 3:49 of the second period. Graduate student captain Taylor Swamp (Akwesasne, N.Y./St. Lawrence Steel) and senior forward Megan Mills (Mono, Ontario/North York Storm) each had the assists.
  • The Lakers got even at 17:48 of the second period with a goal from freshman defenseman Sydney Pinti (Gilbert, Ariz./Pittsburgh Pens Elite). Graduate student forward Rachel Corbett (Rochester, N.Y./Buffalo Regals) and sophomore defenseman Leah Coley (Valencia, Calif./Oakville Hornets) recorded the assists.
  • With just 13 seconds left in the second Oswego grabbed the lead with a power play goal from sophomore forward Jenna Majewski (Peoria, Ariz./UMASS Boston). Senior forward Ashlyn McGrath (Delmar, N.Y./Northwood School) and senior defenseman Lauren Schell (Burlington, Ontario/Central York Panthers) had the assists.
  • The Lakers netted their third goal at 4:55 of the third period. Freshman forward Meagan Smith (Calgary, Alberta/Calgary Fire AAA) scored with assists from senior forward Mack Hull (Watertown, N.Y./Northwood School) and senior forward Simone Bednarik (Elmhurst, Ill./HC SKP Bratislava).
  • At 8:56, junior forward Alessia Marandola (Oakville, Ontario/Oakville Jr. Hornets) started the Bears comeback with a goal that made it 3-2. Junior defenseman Victoria Proulx (Rockland, Ontario/Post University) and sophomore forward Isabel Boyd (Norwood, N.Y./Adirondack 46ers) assisted on the goal.
  • The Bears then pulled junior goalie Magalie Parent (Trois-Rivières, Quebec/Les Diablos – Cégep de Trois-Rivières) for an extra attacker and it paid off.
  • Senior captain Sara Barrett (Tonawanda, N.Y./Niagara Jr. Eagles) tipped in the equalizer at 18:16. Sophomore defenseman Jessika Bullock (Norfolk, N.Y./Adirondack 46ers) and junior forward Rebecca Cain (Skaneateles, N.Y./Syracuse Valley Eagles) had the assists.
  • At 3:21 of overtime, Smith scored the game-winner with a helper from graduate student forward Sophia Kyrkostas (Selden, N.Y./Selects Academy).
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • The Lakers outshot the Bears 46-29.
  • Oswego was 1-for-5 on the power play and Potsdam went 0-for-5.
  • Parent finished with 42 saves.
  • Lakers senior goalie Lexi Levy (St. Louis, Mo./Post University) made 26 stops for the win.
