POTSDAM, N.Y.—No. 6 Oswego State (11-1-1, 8-1-1 SUNYAC) scored a goal in each period to defeat the SUNY Potsdam women's hockey team (5-7-1, 1-6-1) 3-0 on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Senior defenseman Rylee Preston (Lake Placid, N.Y./Syracuse Valley Eagles) opened the scoring at 7:04 of the first period. Sophomore forward Jenna Majewski (Peoria, Ariz./UMASS Boston) and freshman forward Elizabeth Cooley (Rutland, Vt./Lovell Academy) had the assists.
- The Lakers doubled their lead at 12:00 of the second period on goal by graduate student forward Jayden Kelley (East Berne, N.Y./Cortland) and an assist from senior forward Ashley McGrath (Delmar, N.Y./Northwood School).
- McGrath added an insurance marker at 6:44 of the third period. Graduate student forward Rachel Corbett (Rochester, N.Y./Buffalo Regals) picked up the assist.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Oswego outshot the Bears 45-34.
- Both teams were 0-for-3 on the power play.
- Junior goalie Magalie Parent (Trois-Rivières, Quebec/Les Diablos – Cégep de Trois-Rivières) made 42 saves for the Bears.
- Senior goalie Lexi Levy (St. Louis, Mo./Post University) stopped all 34 shots she faced to earn the shutout.
EVERY CHILD MATTERS
The Bears wore orange jerseys during the game to spread awareness for Native American children in Canada and the U.S. who survived the residential school system or didn't return home, as well as their families and communities.
