POTSDAM, N.Y.—SUNY Canton (5-11, 4-7 SUNYAC) scored a goal late in the first period and made it stand up in a 1-0 win over the SUNY Potsdam women's hockey team (5-8, 1-7-1) on Friday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Canton got the contest's lone goal with 1:05 left in the first. Roos senior assistant captain Desiree Snook (Paradise, Newfoundland/St. Francis Xavier University) deflected a shot from junior captain Danika Lalonde (Sudbury, Ontario/Barrie Jr. Sharks) into the top of the net. Junior assistant captain Jane Pancoe (Brantford, Ontario/Leaside, Jr. Wildcats) had the second assist.
- The Bears had a goal waved off early in the second.
- Potsdam pulled junior goalie Magalie Parent (Trois-Rivières, Quebec/Les Diablos – Cégep de Trois-Rivières) with 1:55 left, but couldn't find the equalizer.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Each team had 31 shots.
- Canton was 0-for-2 on the power play and Potsdam went 0-for-4.
- Parent finished with 30 stops.
- Canton sophomore goalie Molly Lenihan (West Chezzetcook, Nova Scotia/Ontario Hockey Academy) earned the shutout with 31 saves.
