Bears ground Eagles, 3-1

MORRISTOWN, N.J.—The SUNY Potsdam men's volleyball team (3-1) defeated Saint Elizabeth University (1-3) 3-1 on Saturday afternoon.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In set one, the Bears trailed 17-13 before taking advantage of some Eagle mistakes for the 25-23 win.
  • Potsdam never trailed in the second set, grabbing a 2-0 lead with a 25-20 win.
  • Saint Elizabeth started the third set with a 6-1 run. The Bears briefly rallied for a 12-11 advantage, but the Eagles answered and took the set 25-19.
  • Potsdam never trailed in the clinching fourth set and closed out the 25-14 win with a 13-2 run.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Senior middle hitter Matt Kilinski (Greenfield Center, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) led the Bears with nine kills to go with 10 digs, an ace and three blocks.
  • Junior outside hitter Duncan Tenhagen (Buffalo, N.Y./West Seneca West) also had nine kills, six digs and an ace.
  • Senior middle hitter Matt Kilinski (Greenfield Center, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) also had nine kills to go with an ace and three blocks.
  • Junior middle hitter Mike Kilinski (Greenfield Center, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) finished with seven kills, three blocks and an ace.
  • Freshman middle hitter Christopher Wong (Elmont, N.Y./Elmont) had another big day at the net, totaling eight blocks.
  • Sophomore setter Alex Lombardo (East Hampton, N.Y./East Hampton) had a match-best 21 assists along with nine digs.
 
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Bears head to New England next weekend. They are at Regis on Friday at 6 p.m. On Saturday, they head to Rivier for an 11 a.m. match with the Raiders, followed by a 1 p.m. contest with No. 7 Springfield.
