Pride rally past Potsdam, 3-2

WESTON, MASS.—Regis College (4-3) escaped a 2-0 deficit to defeat the SUNY Potsdam men's volleyball team (3-2) 3-2 on Friday night.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In set one, the Pride led 10-7 early, but the teams traded leads the rest of the way. Back-to-back kills from senior middle hitter Matt Kilinski (Greenfield Center, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) gave the Bears a 26-24 win.
  • Potsdam led by three to five points for much of the second set before claiming a 25-20 victory. A service ace from Matt Kilinski and a kill from freshman middle hitter Christopher Wong (Elmont, N.Y./Elmont Memorial) closed out the set.
  • The third set was a hard-fought marathon, but the Pride pulled out a 30-28 win to stay alive.
  • Regis evened the match with a 25-23 victory in set four. The Pride broke a 15-15 tie and were able to stay just in front the rest of the way.
  • Regis used a 6-2 run to grab an 11-7 lead in the fourth and finished off the Bears with a 15-11 decision.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Junior outside hitter Duncan Tenhagen (Buffalo, N.Y./West Seneca West) had a match-best 21 kills, to go with 13 digs and an ace. He also hit .309 in the contest.
  • Matt Kilinski finished with a career-high 20 kills, 14 digs and an ace.
  • Wong totaled nine kills and hit .421 in the contest.
  • Sophomore setter Alex Lombardo (East Hampton, N.Y./East Hampton) contributed a personal-best 51 assists along with three blocks and an ace.
  • Junior middle hitter Mike Kilinski (Greenfield Center, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) and freshman right side Charlie Cherchio (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) each had four blocks.
  • Sophomore middle hitter Jack Orrange (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) chipped in 16 digs.
 
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Bears head to Nashua, N.H. tomorrow morning for a tri-match at Rivier University. Potsdam faces the host Raiders at 11 a.m. and No. 7 Springfield College at 1 p.m.
