POTSDAM, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam women's basketball team (4-5) trailed at the half, but rallied for a 56-50 victory over Russell Sage College (1-6) on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Gators edged the Bears 11-10 in the opening quarter. Senior guard Carley Hill (Essex, Vt./Rice Memorial) scored eight points, including six on 3-pointers for Potsdam.
- Sage outscored Potsdam 15-14 in the second 10 minutes and led 26-24 at the break. Senior guard Barbara Bruno (Bronx, N.Y./Brooklyn High School for Law and Technology) had five points in the quarter, while senior forward Jenna Cotter (Johnson City, N.Y./Susquehanna Valley) had four and Hill hit another three.
- The Bears broke out in the third quarter, outscoring the Gators 21-13 and grabbing a 45-39 advantage. Cotter led the charge with eight points, while junior guard DaeLynn Alcock (Philadelphia, N.Y./Indian River) scored six and Bruno had five.
- Sage wasn't able to close the gap in the fourth quarter as each team scored 11 points in the last 10 minutes for the 56-50 final. Alcock added four more points in the quarter and Cotter had three.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The Gators shot 34.5-percent from the floor, while the Bears hit 33.3-percent of their shots.
- Potsdam edged Sage on the glass 44-42.
- Cotter finished with a game-high double-double of 17 points and 11 boards.
- Alock recorded a career-high 12 points and Bruno matched her. Alcock added seven rebounds and Bruno had nine.
- Hill scored 11 points, nine coming from long range.
- Junior guard Layla Acosta (Haines City, Fla./Haines City) led the Gators with 12 points and seven rebounds.
