CASTLETON, VT.—Sophomore forward
Jalynn Castro (Dexter, N.Y./Syracuse Valley Eagles) scored with 36 left to lift the SUNY Potsdam women's hockey team (4-4-1) over Keene State (7-6), 3-2, in the consolation of the Castleton Bagley Invitational.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Molly Price gave the Owls a 1-0 lead just 2:45 into the contest on the power play. Emma McNeil and Ava Iantosca had the assists.
- Ellie Patrick put Keene State up 2-0 with an even-strength marker at 9:26 of the first period with assists from Grace Bazin and Paige Henault.
- Graduate student captain Taylor Swamp (Akwesasne, N.Y./St. Lawrence Steel) got the Bears on the board at 10:08.
- Graduate student forward Rylee Garrow (Akwesasne, Quebec/St. Lawrence Steel) tied the game at 17:39 with a helper from graduate student forward Rebecca Holmes (Lawtons, N.Y./Buffalo Bisons).
- With just 36 seconds left in the contest, Castro buried the game-winner while the Bears were shorthanded. Junior forward Rebecca Cain (Skaneateles, N.Y./Syracuse Valley Eagles) and sophomore defenseman Elise Clifford (Auburn, N.Y./Syracuse Valley Eagles) had the assists.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Potsdam outshot Keene State 34-28.
- The Owls were 1-for-11 on the power play and the Bears went 0-for-7.
- Freshman goalie Maddy Ferguson (Medicine Hat, Alberta/South Alberta Hockey Academy) made 26 saves for her second career win.
- Makenna Montgomery made 31 saves for Keene State.
- Castro was named to the All-Tournament Team.
