Mustangs hold off Bears, 2-1

POTSDAM, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam women's hockey team (4-5-1, 0-3-1 SUNYAC) fell just short in a 2-1 loss to Morrisville State (6-4, 3-2) on Tuesday evening.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Senior forward Allicen Bouchard (Rockford, Ill./Madison Capital) put the Mustangs up 1-0 at 8:03 of the first period with an assist from senior forward Allie Davidson (Niagara Falls, Ontario/Brock Jr. Badgers).
  • Morrisville went up 2-0 with just 47 seconds left in the second period. Sophomore forward Bailey McMaster (Regina, Saskatchewan/University of New Brunswick) roofed a shot off a pass from senior defenseman Logyn Nyitrai (Acton, Ontario/North Halton Twisters).
  • The Bears pulled junior goalie Magalie Parent (Trois-Rivières, Quebec/Les Diablos – Cégep de Trois-Rivières) with 2:20 remaining and it paid off. Graduate student forward Kaylee Merrill (Wasilla, Alaska/Anchorage North Stars) added to her program record with the 63rd goal of her career at 18:26. Sophomore forward Elise Clifford (Auburn, N.Y./Syracuse Valley Eagles) and graduate student forward Rebecca Homes (Lawtons, N.Y./Buffalo Bisons) each assisted on the goal.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • The Bears outshot the Mustangs 30-26.
  • Morrisville was 0-for-1 on the power play and Potsdam went 0-for-3.
  • Parent finished with 24 saves.
  • Mustang freshman goaltender J'Anne Colbow (Weyburn, Saskatchewan/Northern Alberta Xtreme) stopped 29 shots for the win.
