Soaring Eagles surge late to down Bears, 4-2

POTSDAM, N.Y.—Elmira College (6-3-2) scored three third period goals to complete a 4-2 comeback victory over the SUNY Potsdam men's hockey team (4-9-2) on Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Bears broke through first at 16:35 of the opening period. Freshman forward Owen Watson (Smiths Falls, Ontario/Smiths Falls Bears) centered the puck from the right post and sophomore forward Jakub Hall (Anchorage, Alaska/Richmond Generals) knocked it home. Junior assistant captain Michael Campbell (Toronto, Ontario/Jersey Whalers) started the play and had the second assist.
  • At 7:17 of the second period, junior forward Mason Hoehn (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Richmond Generals) blocked a shot, carried the puck down ice and gave it to freshman forward Finnegan Kilmurray (Ottawa, Ontario/Smiths Falls Bears). Kilmurray quickly gave it back and Hoehn beat Elmira sophomore goalie Kyle Curtin (St. George, Ontario/Toronto Patriots) glove-side to make it 2-0.
  • The Soaring Eagles scored a shorthanded goal at 17:08 of the second period. Graduate student forward Bailey Krawczyk (Elmira, N.Y./Rochester Monarchs) finished a Bears turnover with a backhander that beat Potsdam sophomore goalie Lenny Perno (Rochester, N.Y./Richmond Generals) five-hole. Senior forward Nathan Young (New Market, Md./Boston Jr. Rangers) had the assist.
  • Senior forward Joel Pavey (Sarnia, Ontario/Navan Grads) got Elmira even at 6:23 of the third period. Senior defenseman Carter Wisely (Syracuse, N.Y./Islanders Hockey Club) and freshman defenseman Kyle Hughes (Dexter, N.Y./Seacoast Spartans) had the assists.
  • Junior forward Tyler Schwindt (New Hamburg, Ontario/Timmins Rock) gave the Soaring Eagles the lead at 8:05, tapping home the puck at the right post to make it 3-2. Hughes and Young recorded the assists.
  • Freshman forward Myles Yearwood (Toronto, Ontario/Stouffville Spirit) scored an insurance marker at 15:41 with assists from freshman defenseman Cam Lowe (Auburn, N.Y./Utica Comets) and freshman forward Owen Halloran (Markham, Ontario/Markham Royals).
