POTSDAM, N.Y.—SUNY New Paltz (6-2-2, 1-1 SUNYAC) scored three times in the first half en route to a 5-0 win over the SUNY Potsdam men's soccer team (4-4-1, 0-2) on Wednesday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Just 8:09 into the contest sophomore forward Brandon Dhanoolal (Tarrytown, N.Y./Irvington) finished a long pass from freshman midfielder Owen Joyce (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) to open the scoring.
- Senior forward Colin Brant (Latham, N.Y./Shaker) doubled the lead at 11:53 with assists from junior midfielder Kieran Weber (Levittown, N.Y./Gen. Douglas MacArthur) and Joyce.
- Senior defender Ryan Bochenski (Eastchester, N.Y./Eastchester) knocked home a rebound at 18:59 to make it 3-0.
- Weber scored at 66:58 with helpers from senior midfielder Alex Wyant (Beacon, N.Y./Beacon) and sophomore forward Ryan Zindler (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham).
- Weber notched his second at 70:38 with an assist from junior forward Riley Tait (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) for a 5-0 lead.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- New Paltz outshot the Bears 22-8 and had a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.
- Sophomore goalie James Kelm (Chester, N.Y./Chester Academy) made seven saves for the Bears.
- Hawks junior goalie Joe Washington (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) made one save in the first 75:15 to earn the win. Senior Cody Baker (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) also stopped a shot in the last 14:45 to seal the shutout.
