POTSDAM, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam women's volleyball team (8-8, 1-1 SUNYAC) defeated SUNY Canton (7-14, 0-3) 3-0 in a Friday evening SUNYAC battle.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Bears used a 15-5 run to close out a set one victory by a 25-13 score. Freshman outside hitter Ashlee Hagerman (Kirkwood, N.Y./Windsor) had four kills and junior outside hitter Emily Prest (Averill Park, N.Y./Averill Park) added three.
- The Kangaroos led 18-14 in set two before Potsdam rallied with an 11-4 flourish to take the 25-22 win. Prest finished the set with four kills, while Hagerman and freshman middle hitter Logan Georgia (Owego, N.Y./Owego) each chipped in two.
- Canton led early in set three, but the Bears escaped with another 25-22 win to close out the sweep. Prest, Georgia and senior captain Sophia Layer (Potsdam, N.Y./Potsdam) each had three kills.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Prest led the Bears with 10 kills, two aces and six kills. Georgia had seven kills and three blocks. Hagerman also had seven kills.
- Layer registered 23 assists, an ace and seven digs.
- Junior setter Rachel Madore (Peru, N.Y./Peru) recorded 17 digs and junior middle hitter Noelle Redeye (Cattaraugus, N.Y./Silver Creek) posted a match best five blocks.

The Bears host a tri-match tomorrow. They host Oswego State at noon in another SUNYAC contest. At 5 p.m., Potsdam squares off with St. Lawrence University.
