POTSDAM, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam women's volleyball team (8-10, 1-2 SUNYAC) fell to Oswego State (16-4, 4-0) and St. Lawrence University (12-7) by identical 3-1 scores in a tri-match in Jerry Welsh Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon. SLU defeated Oswego 3-0 (28-26, 25-22, 25-18) in the neutral site matchup.
HOW IT HAPPENED (OSWEGO)
- The Lakers opened up a 20-9 lead in set one and held on for a 25-17 win. Bears freshman outside hitter Ashlee Hagerman (Kirkwood, N.Y./Windsor) had four kills.
- Oswego was even stronger in the second set, cruising to a 25-12 win. Hagerman and junior middle hitter Noelle Redeye (Cattaraugus, N.Y./Silver Creek) each had two kills.
- Potsdam rallied to take set three 25-23. Hagerman added five kills, while freshman middle hitter Logan Georgia (Owego, N.Y./Owego) and junior outside hitter Ella Murtagh (Massena, N.Y./Massena) each had two kills.
- The Lakers pulled away late in set four for the 25-18 victory to take the match. Hagerman added three more kills as did Murtagh.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS (OSWEGO)
- Hagerman finished with 14 kills and 12 digs. Junior outside hitter Emily Prest (Averill Park, N.Y./Averill Park) had six kills and 14 digs.
- Senior captain Sophia Layer (Potsdam, N.Y./Potsdam) contributed 29 assists, five kills and eight digs.
- Junior setter Rachel Madore (Peru, N.Y./Peru) totaled 17 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED (SLU)
- The Bears edged the Saints 25-22 in a tight first set. Hagerman had another five kills.
- SLU rebounded with a 25-23 win in set two. Prest had three kills and Hagerman and Layer each provided two.
- The Saints used a 13-3 run to take set three 25-17 and a 2-1 lead in the match. Hagerman posted another three kills and Redeye had two.
- SLU closed out the match with a 25-16 win in set four. Hagerman, Murtagh and Redeye each contributed two kills.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS (SLU)
- Hagerman totaled 14 kills and eight digs. Prest had seven kills and 12 digs. Redeye chipped in six kills, two digs and a block.
- Layer added another 25 assists, six digs and two aces.
- Madore had nine digs and four assists and junior defensive specialist Olivia Eves (Chaumont, N.Y./General Brown) added seven digs.
