Blue Devils down Bears, 3-2

POTSDAM, N.Y.—SUNY Fredonia (8-12, 3-2 SUNYAC) held off the SUNY Potsdam women's volleyball team (8-13, 1-5) 3-2 on Friday night in Jerry Welsh Gymnasium.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Set one was tied 12-12, but the Blue Devils pulled away with a 13-5 run for a 25-17 win. Freshman outside hitter Ashlee Hagerman (Kirkwood, N.Y./Windsor) had three kills for the Bears and freshman middle hitter Logan Georgia (Owego, N.Y./Owego) added two.
  • Set two was much like the first. Fredonia broke a 13-13 stalemate with a 12-6 run for a 25-19 win. Hagerman and Georgia each had two more kills.
  • Potsdam reversed the trend in set three, breaking an 8-8 tie with a 9-1 run en route to a 25-16 win. Junior outside hitter Emily Prest (Avrill Park, N.Y./Averill Park) recorded five kills and junior middle hitter Noelle Redeye (Cattaraugus, N.Y./Silver Creek) had four.
  • The Blue Devils opened the fourth set up 7-0 and but the Bears rallied for a 30-28 win to even the match. Hagerman led the charge with six kills, while Prest and Georgia each had two.
  • Fredonia took set five 15-10 and the match 3-2. Georgia had three kills and Hagerman and Prest each had two.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Hagerman finished with 15 kills and 13 digs. Prest had 12 kills and 14 digs. Georgia posted a career-high nine kills and four blocks.
  • Bears senior captain Sophia Layer (Potsdam, N.Y./Potsdam) had a match-best 34 assists along with a block.
  • Junior setter Rachel Madore (Peru, N.Y./Peru) registered 20 digs and three assists.
  • Freshman libero Carli Knapp (Lovington, N.M./Lovington) and junior defensive specialist Madison Gilliland (Rossville, Ga./Lakeview Fort Oglethrope) each had two aces.
