Red Dragons sweep Bears


CORTLAND, N.Y.—SUNY Cortland (20-6, 8-0 SUNYAC) swept the SUNY Potsdam women's volleyball team (8-15, 1-7) 3-0 on Friday night in SUNYAC play.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Dragons took set one 25-16. Freshman outside hitter Ashlee Hagerman (Kirkwood, N.Y./Windsor) and junior outside hitter Emily Prest (Averill Park, N.Y./Averill Park) each had two kills.
  • The Bears were within 12-9 in set two, but Cortland pulled away for a 25-13 win. Hagerman added three more kills.
  • The Red Dragons broke a 12-12 tie in set three and finished off the match with a 25-18 victory. Junior middle hitter Noelle Redeye (Cattaraugus, N.Y./Silver Creek) and Prest each had three kills.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Hagerman led the Bears with seven kills and six digs. Prest had six kills. Redeye finished with four kills.
  • Senior captain Sophia Layer (Potsdam, N.Y./Potsdam) had 20 assists and nine digs.
  • Junior setter Rachel Madore (Peru, N.Y./Peru) recorded a match-best 15 digs.
 
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Bears head to SUNY Morrisville tomorrow at 1 p.m. to wrap up the weekend.
