POTSDAM, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam women's soccer team (7-3-2, 1-2-1 SUNYAC) scored four second half goals to defeat SUNY Canton (0-12, 0-4) 5-0 on Wednesday evening. With the victory the Bears retained the Boyd Jones Cup.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• Junior midfielder Alana Cunningham (Norfolk, Va./Maury) put the Bears up for good at 16:00. Senior forward Madison Wagner (Chittenango, N.Y./Chittenango) and senior defender Jaidan Kertenis (Hampden, Mass./Minnechaug Regional) picked up the assists.
• The Bears outshot Canton 5-0 in the first half.
• Potsdam was awarded a penalty kick at 60:07 and Wagner capitalized to make it 2-0.
• The Bears got their third goal at 62:36 after a Canton defender deflected a Potsdam shot into the net.
• Potsdam netted its fourth of the game at 69:18 when junior midfielder Samantha Parsons (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) scored with an assist from Cunningham.
• Junior forward Morgan Williams (Rochester, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) knocked home a rebound at 85:46 to cap the scoring at 5-0.

 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS

• Potsdam outshot Canton 14-0 on the night and had the exact same advantage in corners.
• Junior goalies Megan Fry (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) (69:18) and Caroline Vines (Irondequoit, N.Y./Irondequoit) (20:42) split the shutout.
• Canton sophomore goalie Mackenzie Ryan (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) made four saves.
• Potsdam is now 18-0-1 against Canton dating back to 1987 and 13-0-1 in Boyd Jones Cup contests.
