PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam women's basketball team (1-3) overpowered Mount Holyoke College (0-4) 75-46 in the second round of the Holiday Inn Express Plattsburgh Cardinal Classic on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Bears outscored the Lyons 15-9 in the first quarter. Senior forward DaeLynn Alcock (Philadelphia, N.Y./Indian River) had four points from the free-throw line. Senior guard Paris Jones (Houston, Texas/Dulles) also had four points and freshman guard Lillian Hoyt (Hornell, N.Y./Hornell) hit a three.
- It was nearly all Bears in the second quarter as Potsdam had a 17-8 advantage and took a 32-17 lead into the half. Freshman guard Lucie Scarpine (Angola, N.Y./Lake Shore) hit two threes and Alcock also scored six points. Sophomore center Reese Shambo (Au Sable Forks, N.Y./AuSable Valley) hit three free throws.
- Both teams had their biggest offensive output in the third quarter, but Potsdam continued to pull away 23-16 and led 55-33 after 30 minutes. Alcock scored eight more and Scarpine hit two more threes. Richards also scored from long range.
- Mount Holyoke couldn't get any closer as Potsdam outscored them 20-13 in the fourth quarter. Alcock scored another six points. Scarpine had five, including a three. Freshman guard Olivia Cook (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) and junior guard Marygrace Guiney (Parishville, N.Y./Parishville-Hopkinton) also hit threes.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The Bears shot 40.9-percent from the floor, while holding the Lyons to just 24.2.
- Potsdam also controlled the glass by a 54-38 margin.
- Alcock had another big game with 24 points, seven boards, seven steals and two blocks.
- Scarpine had a career-high 17 points and five boards. Cook had nine points and Richards scored seven.
- Hannah Goen and Alex Twomey led the Lyons with 13 and 11 points, respectively.

Potsdam is off until Tuesday, November 25, when the Bears head across town to face Clarkson University at 5:30 p.m.
