Continentals overpower Bears

CLINTON, N.Y.—Hamilton College (1-1) got off to a fast start and defeated the SUNY Potsdam (0-2) 100-59 Tuesday night.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Continentals raced out to a 26-7 lead through the first eight minutes of the game.
  • Potsdam outscored Hamilton 25-24 over the final 12 minutes of the half, but trailed 50-32 at the break.
  • Sophomore guard Mike Hancock (Bayville, N.Y./Locust Valley) scored eight points for the Bears in the first 20 minutes, while junior captain Ethan Baksh (Queens, N.Y./Richmond Hill) and sophomore guard Tim Hardy (Portsmouth, Va./Ocean Lakes) each had five.
  • Hamilton continued to pull away in the second half, closing out the 100-59 victory.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Hamilton shot 51.4-percent from the floor to the Bears 28.8.
  • The Continentals controlled the glass 53-36.
  • Senior guard Jaylen Singh (Murfreesburo, Tenn./Rockvale) led the Bears with 10 points, four rebounds and two steals.
  • Hancock and Hardy each finished with nine points.
  • Matthew Rideout led Hamilton with 17 points. Evan O'Reilly scored 16 points and grabbed six rebounds. David Melson rounded out the leaders with 15 points.
 
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Bears head to Pittsburgh this weekend for the Chatham University Classic. Potsdam squares off with the host Cougars on Friday at 7 p.m. The Bears face Geneva College at noon on Saturday.
