Cougars upend Bears

PITTSBURGH, PA.—Chatham University (1-2) defeated the SUNY Potsdam men's basketball team (0-3) 100-77 in the first round of the Chatham Classic on Friday night.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cougars opened the game on a 15-2 run and led 33-14 with 6:22 left in the first half.
  • The Bears finally answered with a 21-10 stretch to close within 43-35 at the break.
  • A tip-in from sophomore guard Mike Hancock (Bayville, N.Y./Locust Valley) got the Potsdam within six, 43-37, nine seconds into the second half.
  • However, Chatham pulled away over the rest of the final 20 minutes to close out the 100-77 win.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • The Cougars shot 50-percent from the floor to Potsdam's 39.4-percent.
  • Chatham also finished with a 45-32 advantage on the glass.
  • Junior captain Ethan Baksh (Queens, N.Y./Richmond Hill) had a career-high 16 points and five boards to lead the Bears.
  • Senior guard Jaylen Singh (Murfreesboro, Tenn./Rockvale) had a season-high 13 points and Hancock finished with 10.

The Bears face Geneva College tomorrow at noon in the second round of the classic.
