Golden Tornadoes overtake Bears

PITTSBURGH, PA.—Geneva College (3-2) defeated the SUNY Potsdam men's basketball team (0-4) 86-60 in the second round of the Chatham University Classic on Saturday afternoon.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Golden Tornadoes used a 27-7 run over the first 10 minutes of the game to grab a 30-12 lead at 9:19 of the first half.
  • Geneva continued to pull away and led 51-24 at the break.
  • Potsdam outscored the Tornadoes 29-15 through the first nine minutes of the second half to get within 66-53 with 11:02 to play.
  • However, Geneva finished the contest on a 20-7 stretch to close out the 86-60 victory.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • The Tornadoes outshot the Bears 50.8 to 35.5-percent from the floor and had a 45-31 advantage on the boards.
  • Sophomore guard Mike Hancock (Bayville, N.Y./Locust Valley) led the Bears with 14 points, four rebounds and three steals.
  • Sophomore guard Timothy Hardy (Portsmouth, Va./Ocean Lakes) and freshman forward Joseph Decker (Fair Haven, N.Y./Red Creek) each had a career-high 13 points.
  • Junior captain Ethan Baksh (Queens, N.Y./Richmond Hill) finished with nine points and seven rebounds.
  • Jonathan Bertovich paced Geneva with 25 points and nine rebounds.
  •  Alec Strock and Trey Barker each scored 16 points for the Tornadoes.

The Bears host crosstown rival Clarkson University on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
