No. 12 Elmira strikes late to defeat Bears, 3-1

ELMIRA, N.Y.—12th ranked Elmira College scored twice in the third period to defeat the SUNY Potsdam women's hockey team (1-2) 3-1 on Friday afternoon.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Senior defenseman Victoria Proulx (Rockland, Ontario/Post University) got the Bears on the board first with a goal at 4:09 of the second period. Senior forward Alessia Marandola (Oakville, Ontario/Oakville Jr. Hornets) had the assist.
  • With just 34 seconds left in the middle stanza, the Soaring Eagles tied the game. Rian Comeau finished a feed from Annie Audet and the game was tied heading into the second intermission.
  • Elmira got a power-play goal from Anna Lugge at 10:12 of the third period for the eventual game-winner. Gabby Dougherty and Amber Meluzio each picked up an assist.
  • Lugge got the Soaring Eagles some insurance at 13:17 to close the scoring on helpers from Bella Tomasso and MK Boyle.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Senior captain Magalie Parent (Trois-Rivières, Quebec/Les Diablos – Cégep de Trois-Rivières) made 39 saves for the Bears.
  • Sara Sevcikova stopped seven shots to earn the win.
  • The Bears were 0-for-3 on the power play and Elmira went 1-for-6.
