LA PLUME, PA.—Keystone College (2-7) defeated the SUNY Potsdam men's basketball team (1-8) 102 to 76 on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Giants used a 9-0 run to grab a 13-5 advantage at 14:45 of the first half and never relinquished the lead.
- A Keystone layup with seven seconds on the clock sent the Giants into the break with an 18-point, 54-36 lead, their biggest of the half.
- The Bears started the final 20 minutes with a 9-2 run to climb within 56-45 at 17:05.
- The Giants answered with a 15-2 stretch to grab a 71-47 lead, their biggest of the contest, with 12:39 to go.
- Potsdam countered with another run, 19-6, over the next 5:45 to get within 77-66. 13 of the points came from the free-throw line, with junior captain Ethan Baksh (Queens, N.Y./Richmond Hill) hitting six attempts and sophomore guard Bryson Brown (New York, N.Y./Mercersburg Academy) adding four.
- The Giants used an 11-0 run with just over four minutes remaining to thwart the comeback and seal the 102-76 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The Giants shot 58.5-percent from the floor, while holding the Bears to 35.4.
- Keystone edged Potsdam on the glass, 43-37.
- The Bears hit 80-percent (28-35) of their free throws.
- Baksh led Potsdam with 14 points and three rebounds.
- Brown, senior guard Jaylen Singh (Murfreesboro, Tenn./Rockvale) and freshman forward Joseph Decker (Fair Haven, N.Y./Red Creek) each scored 10 points. The total was a career-high for Brown.
- Sophomore guard Mike Hancock (Bayville, N.Y./Locust Valley) registered seven points and eight rebounds.
- Kamdyn Ayers led all scorers with 22 points for the Giants. PJ Murphy had 17 and Jden Golding chipped in 15.
- Potsdam is now 2-1 against the Giants in the all-time series, which began with a 68-66 Bears win in La Plume on January 3, 2008.
