NASHUA, N.H.—The SUNY Potsdam women's hockey team (4-4-1) shut out Rivier University (5-4) 2-0 on Friday evening in the opener of a two-game series. Senior captain
Magalie Parent (Trois-Rivières, Quebec/Les Diablos – Cégep de Trois-Rivières) made 29 saves for her second straight shutout, third of the season and sixth of her career.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- There was no scoring in the first period thanks in part to eight saves from Parent and seven stops from Raider goalie Taylor Bruno.
- The Bears struck first at 6:25 of the second period with a goal from senior forward Josie Purdy (White Lakes, Nova Scotia/Ontario Hockey Academy). junior defender Jessika Bullock (Norfolk, N.Y./Adirondack 46ers) and senior forward Megan Mills (Mono, Ontario/North York Storm) had the assists.The goal was the first of Purdy's career.
- Junior forward Jalynn Castro (Dexter, N.Y./Syracuse Valley Eagles) made it 2-0 at 11:17 of the middle stanza with an assist from Bullock.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Rivier outshot the Bears 29-20.
- Potsdam was 0-for-1 on the power play and the Raiders went 0-for-3.
- Bruno finished with 18 saves.
