Blue Devils rally past Potsdam in OT, 77-73

POTSDAM, N.Y.—SUNY Fredonia (1-6, 1-1 SUNYAC) used a big second half comeback to defeat the SUNY Potsdam men's basketball team (1-7, 1-1) 77-73 in overtime on Saturday evening.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Blue Devils opened the contest on an 11-4 run through the first 14:34.
  • An old fashioned three-point play from junior captain Ethan Baksh (Queens, N.Y./Richmond Hill) woke up the Bears and sparked a 26-3 run for a 30-14 lead at 2:52. Sophomore guard Timothy Hardy (Portsmouth, Va./Ocean Lakes) scored 13 of points during the stretch.
  • The Blue Devils closed the half with an 11-7 flourish, but Potsdam led 37-25 at the break.
  • Freshman forward Landon Cox (Dickinson Center, N.Y./Brushton-Moira) scored eight points in the first half for the Bears.
  • The teams split the first 16 points of the second half, with Potsdam leading 45-33 at the 14:43 mark, but the Bears couldn't shake the Blue Devils.
  • Fredonia outscored Potsdam 35-23 the rest of the way and a buzzer-beating layup from freshman guard Antonio Andrews (Amherst, N.Y./Amherst) tied the score at 68 and sent the contest to overtime.
  • A 5-1 run gave Potsdam a 73-72 edge with 1:27 left in the extra session. However, Fredonia answered with a 5-0 run to clinch the 77-73 win.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Fredonia shot 41.3-percent to the floor compared to the Bears' 40.0-percent.
  • Potsdam outrebounded the Blue Devils 45-43.
  • Hardy finished with a career-high 16 points along with nine rebounds.
  • Baksh scored 14 points and had six boards.
  • Sophomore guard Mike Hancock (Bayville, N.Y./Locust Valley) scored 13 points and had five assists and four rebounds.
  • Cox finished with 12 points and eight rebounds.
  • Fredonia freshman guard Stevie Williams (North Babylon, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) led all scorers with 25 points.
  • Blue Devils junior forward Jason Douglas (Montclair, N.J./Montclair) also reached double digits with 12 points.
