Bears rally for 2-1 win over Canton

POTSDAM, N.Y.—SUNY Canton (6-13-1, 3-6 SUNYAC) scored first, but the SUNY Potsdam men's hockey team (5-11-4, 3-5-1) responded two unanswered goals to pick up a critical 2-1 win and end a wins drought.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Canton junior forward Jack Seamans (Medicine Lake, Minn./Minnesota Mullets) opened the scoring off a rebound at 4:39 of the first period. Senior forward Brendan Morrow (Wetaskiwin, Alberta) took the initial shot off a pass from junior forward Evan Pringle (Aurora, Ontario/Oakville Blades).
  • The Bears got even with just 39 seconds left in the first. Junior forward Mathieu Parent (Kapuskasing, Ontario/Renfrew Wolves) won the faceoff to the left of the Kangaroos' goal. Junior forward Jeremy Quesnel (Alexandria, Ontario/Hawkesbury Hawks) picked up the puck at the top of the circle and wristed it into the top of the net.
  • Potsdam took the lead at 16:40 of the second period on the power play. Junior forward Payton Felix (De Peyster, N.Y./Northeast Generals) knocked home the rebound off a shot from graduate student assistant captain Jack Loran (Massena, N.Y./New England Wolves). Junior forward Ryan Mahlmeister (Massapequa, N.Y./PAL Junior Islanders) notched the second assist.
  • Canton pulled junior goalie Nate Hopkins (Wakefield, R.I./Seahawks Hockey Club) for an extra attacker with 1:24 remaining, but couldn't net the equalizer.
