Magalie Parent (Trois-Rivières, Quebec/Les Diablos – Cégep de Trois-Rivières) made 47 saves as the SUNY Potsdam women's hockey team (5-12-3, 1-11-3 SUNYAC) rallied to tie ninth-ranked SUNY Cortland (16-3-3, 11-3-1) 1-1 on Friday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- McKenzie Brown got the Red Dragons on the board first with a power-play goal at 9:25 of the first period. Ainsley Delacourt and Kayla Persinger assisted on the goal.
- Merrill tied the game at 11:15 of the first with an assist from freshman forward Olivia Visco (West Seneca, N.Y./Nichols School). The goal was her fifth of the year and program-leading 66th of her career.
- Despite intense Cortland pressure, the contest remained tied after 20 minutes.
- There was no scoring in the second period, but the Red Dragons continued to pressure Potsdam's defense.
- Cortland outshot the Bears 11-5 in the third period, but Potsdam had a 5-0 advantage in overtime. However, neither team could net the game-winner.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The Red Dragons finished with a 48-22 advantage in shots.
- Cortland was 1-for-1 on the power play and the Bears went 0-for-3.
- Molly Goergen made 21 stops for the Red Dragons.
