UTICA, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam men's volleyball team (3-6) lost to Hilbert College (7-6) and SUNY Poly (11-7) by identical 3-0 scores in a tri-match hosted by SUNY Poly on Friday evening.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (HILBERT)

• In set, one the Bears fell behind 4-1 early and the Hawks managed hold Potsdam off 25-21.
• Hilbert raced out to a 10-3 lead in set two, but the Bears answered with a 17-9 run to briefly grab a 20-19 advantage before bowing in a 29-27 marathon.
• Down 24-21 in set three, Potsdam rallied for four straight points to grab a 25-24 lead. However, the Hawks answered with a 3-0 burst to take a 27-25 win and the match.

 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS (HILBERT)

• Freshman middle hitter Christopher Wong (Elmont, N.Y./Elmont) led the Bears with a career-high 10 kills to go with three aces and two blocks.
• Junior outside hitter Duncan Tenhagen (Buffalo, N.Y./West Seneca West) had nine kills and a team-leading eight digs.
• Junior middle hitter Matt Kilinski (Greenfield Center, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) also registered nine kills along with two aces.
• Sophomore setter Alex Lombardo posted a match-best 33 assists to go with two blocks.
• Sophomore outside hitter Calum Anderson (East Hampton, N.Y./East Hampton) and sophomore middle hitter Jack Orrange (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) each had five digs and sophomore outside hitter Darius Dorsey-Rhule (Elmont, N.Y./Elmont) paced the Bears with three blocks.

 
HOW IT HAPPENED (SUNY POLY)

• In set one, the Wildcats built a 10-3 lead and held on for a 25-19 win.
• SUNY Poly slowly expanded a narrow lead to win 25-21 in set two.
• The Bears battled to a 12-12 draw through the first half of set three, before the Wildcats clinched the match with another 25-21 win.

 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS (SUNY POLY)

• Matt Kilinski had a team-high eight kills, seven digs and a block.
• Tenhagen had seven kills, an ace and four digs.
• Lombardo added another 18 assists and four digs.
• Freshman right side Charlie Cherchio (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) recorded a career-high five blocks and Dorsey-Rhule added personal-best four more.
