NEW PALTZ, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam women's basketball team (9-12, 5-9 SUNYAC) couldn't keep up with SUNY New Paltz (14-8, 13-2 SUNYAC) on Saturday afternoon, losing the contest 65-32.
WHAT HAPPENED
- The Hawks' defense stifled the Bears in the opening 10 minutes, outscoring Potsdam 15-4.
- It was more of the same in the second quarter, with New Paltz building an 18-7 advantage and taking a 33-11 into the break.
- The Hawks didn't slow down in the third, scoring 20 more points to Potsdam's 13 and leading 53-24 after 30 minutes
- New Paltz closed out the 65-32 win with a 12-8 edge in the fourth quarter.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The Hawks shot 36.5-percent from the field while holding the Bears to 27.9-percent.
- Senior guard Barbara Bruno (Bronx, N.Y./Brooklyn High School for Law and Technology) tallied 11 points with five rebounds for the Bears.
- Senior forward Jenna Cotter (Johnson City, N.Y./Susquehanna Valley) just missed a double-double with nine points and 10 boards.
- Sophomore guard Hannah Vanderzee (Ravena, N.Y./Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School) netted 14 points for the Hawks.
