Bears roll past Dutchmen, 16-4

ANNVILLE, PA.—The SUNY Potsdam men's lacrosse team (2-1) started strong and never let up in a 16-4 victory at Lebanon Valley College (3-3) on Monday afternoon.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Bears outscored the Dutchman 6-1 in the opening quarter. Senior attackman Cobie Cree (Akwesasne, N.Y./Salmon River) led the charge with two goals and an assist. Junior attackman Billy Kozloski (Johnson City, N.Y./Johnson City), sophomore midfielder Braden Fahey (Halfmoon, N.Y./Shenendehowa), senior midfielder Owen Walsh (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) and junior faceoff specialist Drew Costello (Ogdensburg, N.Y./Ogdensburg Free Academy) also scored.
  • The teams split the four goals in the second quarter. Senior midfielder Drew Rose (Brasher Falls, N.Y./St. Lawrence Central) scored the first goal of the second and Fahey added his second with a helper from junior midfielder Tyler Gould (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder). It was 8-3 Potsdam at the break.
  • The Bears extended their lead to 12-3 through three quarters with the only four goals of the third. Costello and Walsh scored the first two and Kozloski netted the other two.
  • Potsdam outscored Lebanon Valley 4-1 in the fourth quarter to close out the 16-4 victory. Walsh scored twice. Cobie Cree and junior attackman Crayton Cree (Hogansburg, N.Y./Salmon River) netted the final two goals. Junior defender Tommy Storrin (Brasher Falls, N.Y./St. Lawrence Central), Cobie Cree and sophomore attackman Mick O'Donnell (Watertown, N.Y./Watertown) picked up assists.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Junior goalie Saka Thompson (Akwesasne, N.Y./Salmon River) stopped 10 shots and allowed three goals in the first 54:34 to pick up his 14th career victory.
  • Senior captain Liam O'Neil (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) made three saves and allowed a goal in the final 5:26.
  • Dutchman goalie Kellen Markley stopped 14 shots and allowed 15 goals in the first 54:34 for Lebanon Valley.
  • Cobie Cree paced the Bears with six points on three goals and three assists.
  • Walsh had his best game of the season with four goals and an assist to go with six ground balls.
  • Kozloski finished with three goals and an assist.
  • In addition to his two goals, Costello won 17 of his 19 faceoff opportunities and finished with a game-high 12 ground balls.
  • Cree now has 91 goals and 38 assists for 129 points. He ranks 10th on the program's all-time goals list and is tied for 11th on the scoring list.
  • The contest marked Potsdam's first ever meeting with Lebanon Valley.
 
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Bears continue their Pennsylvania swing with a 3 p.m. meeting with Albright College in Reading on Wednesday. The teams met during both the 2015 and 2016 seasons with the Lions taking the first meeting and Potsdam winning the second.
