Bears sweep Badgers on the road

JOHNSON, VT.—The SUNY Potsdam men's volleyball team (9-7, 1-1 NEVC) defeated Vermont State University-Johnson (4-9, 0-3) in an NEVC and a nonconference contest on Wednesday evening by identical 3-0 scores.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (MATCH 1)
  • The Bears cruised past the Badgers 25-11 in set one.
  • It was more of the same with Potsdam posting a 25-14 win in set two.
  • The third set was tighter before the Bears closed out the match 25-16.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS (MATCH 1)
  • Junior outside hitter Duncan Tenhagen (Buffalo, N.Y./West Seneca West) led the Bears with nine kills, eight digs, two assists and one block.
  • Junior middle hitter Mike Kilinski (Greenfield Center, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) had seven kills, six digs and two blocks.
  • Freshman right side Charlie Cherchio (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) added six kills.
  • Sophomore setter Alex Lombardo (East Hampton, N.Y./East Hampton) posted a game-high 25 assists and senior middle hitter Matt Kilinski (Greenfield Center, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) chipped in five digs.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (MATCH 2)
  • In the finale, set one came down to the wire, but the Bears took the 25-23 decision.
  • The Bears outpaced the Badgers by a bit more in set two, winning 25-21.
  • Set three was also tight, but Potsdam completed the sweep with a 25-23 win.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS (MATCH 2)
  • Freshman middle hitter Christopher Wong (Elmont, N.Y./Elmont) led the Bears with a match-best 10 kills and three blocks.
  • Sophomore outside hitter Darius Dorsey-Rhule (Elmont, N.Y./Elmont) had six kills and eight digs.
  • Freshman opposite Liam Yusko (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) added 17 assists, five kills, four digs and two aces.
  •  Sophomore middle hitter Benson Jovel-Tuong (Latham, N.Y./Shaker) contributed 10 digs.
 
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Bears host NEVC foe Endicott College on Friday at 6 p.m. in their home opener.
