Saints run past Potsdam

POTSDAM, N.Y.—St. Lawrence University (5-4) defeated the SUNY Potsdam men's lacrosse team (5-3) 14-4 on Tuesday afternoon.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • SLU scored the first six goals of the contest. They led 9-1 after one quarter and never gave up control.
  • Senior midfielder Drew Rose (Brasher Falls, N.Y./St. Lawrence Central), senior midfielder Owen Walsh (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) and freshman attackman Mick O'Donnell (Watertown, N.Y./Watertown) each scored and senior attackman Cobie Cree (Akwesasne, N.Y./Salmon River) had a goal and an assist.
  • Sophomore midfielder Andrew Gubbins (South Pomfret, Vt./Woodstock Union) also had an assist.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Senior captain Liam O'Neil (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) allowed six goals in the first 6:24.
  • Junior goalie Saka Thompson (Akwesasne, N.Y./Salmon River) stopped 14 shots and allowed eight goals in the final 53:36.
  • Sophomore attackman Daniel Mahoney (Canton, N.Y./Hugh C. Williams) led the Saints with three goals and two assists for five points.
  • Junior midfielder Dan Anderson (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) also scored three goals for SLU.
  • Senior goalie Michael Marinello (Sherborn, Mass./Belmont Hill School) earned the win for the Saints with two saves and two goals allowed in the first half.
  • Sophomore goalie Heath Mann (Concord, N.H./St. Paul's School) allowed a goal and made two saves in the third quarter.
  • Freshman goalie Rafferty Callahan (Norwalk, Conn./Westminster School) made three saves in the first 10:02 of the fourth quarter.
  • Sophomore goalie Ryan Powers (Morristown, N.J./Bainbridge) allowed a goal and made two stops in the last 4:58.
