Bengals overpower Bears on Senior Day

POTSDAM, N.Y.—Buffalo State (10-2, 4-0 SUNYAC) defeated the SUNY Potsdam women's lacrosse team (5-5, 0-4) 21-9 on Saturday morning. Prior to the game the Bears honored seniors Alyx Jenner (Ogdensburg, N.Y./Ogdensburg Free Academy), Tessa Pierce (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs), Annemarie Geiger (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Plattsburgh) and Mallory Marks (Brownville, N.Y./General Brown) for their careers on Senior Day.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Buffalo State scored three of the contest's first four goals and led 5-2 after 15 minutes. Graduate student midfielder Lindsey LaDue (Massena, N.Y./Massena) scored both of the Bears' goals.
  • The Bengals outscored Potsdam 6-1 in the second quarter and led 11-3 at the break. LaDue added her third on an assist from Marks in the quarter.
  • Potsdam had a 6-5 edge in scoring in the third quarter, but trailed 16-9 through 45 minutes. LaDue and Pierce each had two goals and junior attack Megan MacWilliams (Parishville, N.Y./Parishville-Hopkinton) and freshman attack Jayla Thompson (Hogansburg, N.Y./Massena) scored the other two. Pierce also had two assists.
  • It was all Buffalo State in the fourth quarter as the Bengals finished on a 5-0 run to close out the 21-9 victory.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Freshman goalie Kimora Swamp (Akwesasne, N.Y./Salmon River) finished with 13 saves for the Bears.
  • LaDue finished with five goals.
  • Pierce had four points on two goals and two assists along with four draw controls and two ground balls.
  • Bengals sophomore goalie Brielle Lum (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Niagara-Wheatfield) made three saves and allowed nine goals in the first 43:27 to earn the win. Junior Moira Penot (Clifton Heights, Pa./Upper Darby) had two saves in the last 16:33.
  • Junior attack Vanessa Willick (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville East) led Buffalo State with 11 points on eight goals and three assists along with 11 draw controls, three ground balls and three caused turnovers.

The Bears head across town on Wednesday, to face Clarkson University under the lights at 7 p.m.
