Golden Knights down Bears

POTSDAM, N.Y.—Clarkson University (7-5) defeated the SUNY Potsdam women's lacrosse team (5-6) 18-9 on a chilly Wednesday evening.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Golden Knights opened the contest on an 11-0 run over the first 25:06 of the contest.
  • Junior attack Megan MacWilliams (Parishville, N.Y./Parishville-Hopkinton) got the Bears on the board with 2:24 to go in the second quarter. It was 11-1 at the break.
  • Freshman attack Jayla Thompson (Hogansburg, N.Y./Massena) opened the third quarter with a goal on an assist from graduate student midfielder Lindsey LaDue (Massena, N.Y./Massena). Thompson scored another, followed by one from MacWilliams and two from LaDue. It was 14-6 after 45 minutes.
  • Graduate student defender Taylor Swamp (Akwesasne, N.Y./Salmon River), LaDue and MacWilliams scored for Potsdam in the fourth quarter.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • LaDue led the Bears with three goals and two assists. She now ranks fourth in program history in points (179), fifth in goals (133) and sixth in assists (46). 
  • MacWilliams finished with three goals and an assist.
  • Thompson had two goals and an assist.
  • Freshman goalie Kimora Swamp (Akwesasne, N.Y./Salmon River) made four saves and allowed 11 goals in the first half for the Bears.
  • Junior goalie Olivia Minarich (Albany, N.Y./Albany) had four saves and seven goals allowed in the second half.
  • Gabby Cranfield had seven assists for Clarkson and Madelynn Barnum added six goals.
  • Golden Knights goalie Riley Donovan allowed a goal and made three saves in the first half to earn the win.
  • Jennaca McGill allowed eight goals and made three stops in the second half.
