Saints overpower Bears

CANTON, N.Y.—St. Lawrence University (2-4) scored five times in the first half en route to an 8-1 victory over the SUNY Potsdam men's soccer team (4-2-1) on Wednesday evening.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Saints jumped in front at 11:36 as Kyle Reddish scored with an assist from Nicholas Petrone.
  • Ryan Campbell doubled the lead at 13:15 with an assist from Henry Hart.
  • Kenneth Mejia Lopez made it 3-0 at 21:22 on a helper from Grant Gilmer.
  • Petrone struck just 46 seconds later with another assist from Gilmer.
  • Gilmer netted the fifth goal of the half at 42:24 on a feed from Ben Lee.  
  • Eric Edmonds gave the Saint their first goal of the second half at 62:23 on Gilmer's third assist of the day.
  • Henry Baxter got SLU's seventh goal at 66:34 with an assist from Sammy Bothwell.
  • Verus Kibanga closed the scoring for the Saints at 81:20 on a feed from Tomas Ronzoni.
  • Freshman forward Wyatt Mokey (Manhattan, N.Y./Humanities Preparatory Academy) got the Bears on the board with his first collegiate goal just 36 seconds later. Sophomore forward Jayson Viola (Harrison, N.Y./Harrison) picked up the assist, his first point of the season.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Bears sophomore goalkeeper James Kelm (Chester, N.Y./Chester Academy) made a career-high 12 saves.
  • Zach Amato earned the win for the Saints with a scoreless first half. Evan Widrick allowed a goal in the second half.
 
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Bears are now off for 10 days before the open SUNYAC play at Buffalo State on Saturday, September 27 at 1 p.m.
