Buffalo State overpowers Potsdam

BUFFALO, N.Y.—Diego Rivera scored five goals and had an assist to lead Buffalo State (8-1, 1-0 SUNYAC) past the SUNY Potsdam men's soccer team (4-3-1, 0-1) 6-0 on Saturday afternoon in the teams' SUNYAC openers.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Rivera opened the scoring at 16:18 to put the Bengals up for good. Zaccaria Gerosa picked up the assist.
  • Rivera struck again at 28:31 with an assist from Salvador Gomes.
  • Rivera completed the hat trick just over three minutes later with a helper from Joseph Desmonie.
  • He added a fourth tally at 36:02.
  • His fifth came at 39:48. Isaac Felder had the assist.
  • Rivera set up the Bengals' sixth and final goal at 53:04. Aney Djadou scored the goal.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • The Bengals outshot the Bears 16-3 and had an 11-1 edge in corners.
  • Sophomore goalie James Kelm (Chester, N.Y./Chester Academy) made three saves for the Bears.
  • Buffalo State keeper Carson Smith also stopped three shots to earn the shutout.
