Bears blank Wildcats on the road to pick up first win, 1-0

UTICA, N.Y.—Junior midfielder Alana Cunningham (Norfolk, Va./Maury) scored in the 79th minute to lift the SUNY Potsdam women's soccer team (1-0-1) to a 1-0 win at SUNY Poly (0-2-1) on Wednesday night.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Bears outshot the Wildcats 12-1 in the opening half and didn't allow a shot on goal. They also built an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks.
  • Cunningham broke the stalemate at 78:44, scoring on a shot to the low left corner with an assist from junior forward Morgan Williams (Rochester, N.Y./Bishop Kearney).
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Potsdam finished with a 26-3 advantage in shots and an 11-3 edge in corners.
  • Junior goalie Megan Fry (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) didn't have to make a save to pick up her first career win and second career shutout.
  • SUNY Poly goalie Rylee Unebasami made seven saves.
  • Potsdam is now 13-3-1 in the all-time series with the Wildcats dating back to a 2-1 loss in Utica in 1993.
