Plattsburgh pulls away from Potsdam in second half

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.—Plattsburgh State (7-4, 4-1 SUNYAC) defeated the SUNY Potsdam men's basketball team (1-11, 1-4) 101-78 on Tuesday evening.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cardinals opened the game on a 23-11 run. An 8-0 run on baskets by four different Bears closed the gap to 23-19.
  • Plattsburgh pulled away again with 19-8 stretch for a 42-27 lead. Again, Potsdam answered with a 12-3 run, sparked by eight points from freshman center Batualp Ozen (Ankara, Turkey/Furtah Prep), to get within 45-39.
  • The Cardinals took a 53-44 advantage into the break. Ozen finished the first 20 minutes with 14 points and freshman guard Bobby Kemokai (New Brunswick, N.J./Plattsburgh) scored eight and had three steals.
  • A layup from sophomore guard Timothy Hardy (Portsmouth, Va./Ocean Lakes) got the Bears within 65-59 with 13:04 to play in the second half.
  • Plattsburgh answered with a 12-0 run and pulled away for the 101-78 win.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • The Cardinals were red hot from the floor, hitting 52.9-percent of their shots. Potsdam shot 43.8-percent.
  • Plattsburgh outrebounded Potsdam 49-27.
  • Sophomore guard Mike Hancock (Bayville, N.Y./Locust Valley) led the Bears with 16 points and six rebounds.
  • Ozen had a career-high 14 points.
  • Hardy finished with 12 points, while Kemokai and freshman Landon Cox (Dickinson Center, N.Y./Brushton-Moira) had 10 and nine, respectively.
  • Former Bear Khalil Screen had a double-double of 32 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Cardinals. Reem Welch also scored 32 points for Plattsburgh.
