Cardinals down Bears

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.—Plattsburgh State (8-4, 3-2 SUNYAC) defeated the SUNY Potsdam women's basketball team (2-10, 1-4) 54-41 on Tuesday evening.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cardinals outscored the Bears 14-11 in the opening quarter. Freshman guard Lucie Scarpine (Angola, N.Y./Lake Shore) hit a three and had five points in the first 10 minutes.
  • Plattsburgh had another 14 points in the second quarter and held Potsdam to six to enter the half up 28-17. Scarpine added another three.
  • The Cardinals doubled up the Bears 16-8 in third quarter, extending their lead to 44-25. Senior guard Paris Jones (Houston, Texas/Dulles) paced Potsdam with four points.
  • The Bears closed the contest with 16-6 run before running out of time. Scarpine and freshman guard Olivia Cook (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) matched each other with six points.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Plattsburgh hit 31.3-percent of its shots from the floor to Potsdam's 27.3.
  • The Cardinals controlled the glass with a 52-44 edge in rebounds.
  • Scarpine's 16 points paced the Bears, just one shy of matching her career-high.
  • Cook scored eight points and Alcock finished with six, each grabbed five boards.
  • Kayla Johannesen led the Cardinals with 10 points and Kathy Peterson-Ross just missed a double-double with nine points and seven rebounds.
