Cardinals outlast Bears, 3-1

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State Cardinals (8-8-0, 4-5-0) defeated the SUNY Potsdam men's hockey team (7-9-0, 4-5-0) 3-1 on Saturday evening. 

HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • Plattsburgh scored first with a goal from Jake Sacratini two minutes into the opening period, assisted by Quinn Tavares. 
  • The Cardinals got their second on the power play at 1:25 in the second period. Gabriel Filion found the back of the net with assists from Sacratini and Alexandro Moliner. 
  • The Bears gave up a second power-play goal eight minutes later as Vladislav Pshenichnikov made it 3-0. Tavares picked up his second assist of the game, and Lonan Bulger got his first. 
  • Sophomore Potsdam forward Owen Watson (Smiths Falls, Ontario/Smiths Falls Bears) put the Bears on the board at 6:30 in the third period, assisted by senior forward Ryan Mahlmeister (Massapequa, N.Y./PAL Islanders) and junior defenseman Eli Doughart-Wood (St. Louis, Mo./Navan Grads). 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 
  • Potsdam was outshot 54 to 38. 
  • The Bears went 0-for-4 on the power play. The Cardinals were 2-for-7. 
  • Junior goaltender Lenny Perno (Rochester, N.Y./Richmond Generals) made 51 saves in the game. 
  • Plattsburgh goaltender Brady Spry stopped 37 shots. 

WHAT'S NEXT 
The Bears face off against the SUNY Canton Kangaroos next Friday, January 23, at Maxcy Ice Arena. Puck drop is at 7 p.m.
