Bears rally past AmCats in Castleton Tourney Consolation, 3-2

RUTLAND, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam women's hockey team (5-6-1) overcame an early deficit for a 3-2 victory over Anna Maria College (3-7-1) in the Bagley Invitational Consolation at Vermont State-Castleton on Saturday afternoon.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Quinn Bennett gave the AmCats a 1-0 lead at 9:09 of the first period. Lauren Sundgren and August Otto had the assists.
  • Bears senior forward Megan Mills (Mono, Ontario/North York Storm) tied the game just 42 seconds later. Junior defenseman Jessika Bullock (Norfolk, N.Y./Adirondack 46ers) and sophomore forward Oliva Visco (West Seneca, N.Y./Nichols School) picked up the assists.
  • At 12:53 of the first period, senior forward Rebecca Cain (Skaneateles, N.Y./Syracuse Valley Eagles) put Potsdam up for good with helpers from senior defenseman Elise Clifford (Auburn, N.Y./Syracuse Valley Eagles) and junior forward Jalynn Castro (Dexter, N.Y./Syracuse Valley Eagles).
  • At 17:59 of the second period, senior Josie Purdy (Whites Lake, Nova Scotia/Ontario Hockey Academy) buried the eventual game-winner on assists from Castro and senior captain Rachelle Cain (Skaneateles, N.Y./Syracuse Valley Eagles).
  • Tessa Henry got the AmCats back within one with a power-play goal at 17:58 of the third period. Camryn Beauvais had the assists.
  • With 1:27 remaining, Anna Maria pulled goalie Emma Brewer for an extra attacker, but couldn't find the equalizer.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • The Bears outshot the AmCats 33-17.
  • Potsdam was 0-for-3 on the power play and Anna Maria went 1-for-2.
  • Bears senior captain Magalie Parent (Trois-Rivières, Quebec/Les Diablos – Cégep de Trois-Rivières) made 15 saves to earn her 11th career victory.
  • Brewer stopped 30 shots.
  • Purdy was named to the all-tournament team.
  • The contest was the first ever meeting between the two programs.
